Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks in India

1. Bandipur National Park-



It is established in 1974 as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger, is a national park located in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore.The park spans an area of 874 square kilometers, protecting several species of India's endangered wildlife.

Species:  Tiger, Leopard, Indian elephant, Gaur, Dhole, Chital, Sambar, Sloth bear, Four-horned antelope, Gray langur,Wild boar, Muntjac.





2. Balpakram Sanctuary-

Balpakram is located in South Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, India. It is famous for its forest covered canyon-cum-gorge, which is now part of a National Park. It has a remnant population of the endangered Wild water buffalo Bubalus arnee.

Species:  Water buffalo, Red panda, Asian elephants, gaur, Indian Bison, Tiger, Stump-tailed macaque, Pig-tailed macaque, hoolocks.


3. Chandraprabha Sanctuary-

The Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh.Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated about 70 kilometres from Varanasi.The sanctuary was established in May 1957 and Asiatic lions were introduced at Chandra Prabha in 1958.sanctuary is spread over an area of 78 km² and lies on Naugarh and Vijaigarh hillocks in the Vindhya forest range in Chandauli.

4. Dachigam National Park-

Dachigam National Park is located 22 kilometers from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It covers an area of 141 km2. The name of the park literally stands for "ten villages" which could be in memory of the ten villages that were relocated for its formation.

Species:  hangul, Musk deer, Leopard, Himalayan serow, Himalayan grey langur, Leopard cat , Himalayan black bear Himalayan brown bear, Jackal, Hill fox, Himalayan weasel, Yellow-throated marten, Jungle cat, Long-tailed marmot





5. Keoladeo National Park or Ghana Bird Sanctuary-

The Keoladeo National Park or Keoladeo Ghana National Park formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India is a famous avifauna sanctuary that plays host to thousands of birds especially during the winter season.These diverse habitats are home to 366 bird species, 379 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 7 amphibian species,7 turtle species, and a variety of other invertebrates.
